How to be a putter better

To be a good putter, the experts say, must have a good technique, concentration and lots of practice; if you can’t hit your ball in a straight line over a short distance on a perfectly true and level surface, you will have difficulty in becoming a good putter.

I never played miniature golf in my life. Perhaps if I did, I would be a better putter. So I have never been to the local putting places where you hit the ball into Bozo’s nose, or try to avoid all those windmills and other strange obstacles.

Maybe, though, it would be good way to improve my lagging putting skills. Nothing else seems to be working, either the greens are too fast, or too slow, or there’s a ballmark or a footprint or a fungus right in my line. Or maybe it’s the putter’s fault, it is too short, or too long, whatever.

In terms of scoring, putting is the most important part of the game, and in my case, nothing seems to work these days. The putter certainly doesn’t, not even the new $200 German-made adjustable putter that I bought at a demo day. I turned a screw to adjust the height and the screw fell out. Add that one to the pile in the garage. How about that new putter that looks like a dinner plate with a long handle? Or the ones with all those balls on them? Nope, none of them work for me.
