10 celebrity bankruptcies of all time

Busey joins a long line of celebrities who have gone bust. Some of the most famous: Randy Quaid (Bankrupt in 2000), Toni Braxton (Bankrupt in 1993 and again in 2010), Stan Lee (Bankrupt in 2001), Mike Tyson (Bankrupt in 2003), Donald Trump (Business bankruptcies in 2004 and 2009), Lenny Dykstra (Bankrupt in 2009), Stephen Baldwin (Bankrupt in 2009), Michael Vick (2008),  Sinbad (2009); have utilized the strategic business tool called bankruptcy.

Actor and Celebrity Apprentice contestant Gary Busey filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy just days ago. His liabilities are somewhere in the $500,000-to-$1 million range, according to a Reuters report.

Here’s a rather amusing take on the whole affair from Busey’s agent, as given to celeb site TheWrap:

“As with many great American institutions, i.e., General Motors, American Airlines, and many others who have utilized the strategic business tool called bankruptcy, Gary Busey’s filing is the final chapter in a process that began a few years ago of jettisoning the litter of past unfortunate choices, associations, events and circumstances that visited themselves upon this great American icon, to enable the start of a new and clear path to peace, happiness and success with his career and his wonderful new soulmate, Steffanie, and their son, Luke.”

Healthy smiles for underserved kids

Several Richmond area orthodontists have joined SCL (smiles change lives), the specialists will donate their time and talents to help children in their community for families who do not have the resources to pay the full cost of orthodontic treatment and don?t qualify for other assistance; form applicants who meet these criteria: 10-18 years old, have crooked teeth and/or misaligned jaws, good oral hygiene, household taxable income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.

A child?s joyful smile is contagious. However, some children are afraid to smile because they are embarrassed by their teeth. In today?s economy, this situation can be heartbreaking for families who do not have the resources to pay the full cost of orthodontic treatment.

Thanks to hundreds of caring orthodontists and one national charity, families have an opportunity to help their children obtain affordable orthodontic treatment. Smiles Change Lives (SCL) is now serving low-income kids in the Richmond area thanks to the dedication of several local orthodontists.
